Founded in 2007, the Mimico Children’s Choir has been providing accessible, high quality musical education to children in South Etobicoke for nearly a decade. Directed by Jennifer Robinson, a member of the Canadian Opera Company and Kim Schemeit, a certified music teacher, the Choir gives children an opportunity to learn and grow through music in a nurturing, community-minded setting.
Throughout its history, the Choir has delighted audiences young and old through community-based performances at local events and seniors’ facilities, and has partnered with a number of other prestigious musical groups in the Toronto area, including the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra and the Weston Silver Band. Our Christmas in Mimico carol concert and Annual Spring Concert are the Choir’s main self-presented concerts each season.
New members start in September – Registration for 2016-17 is on now! Click here to find out more about joining the choir.
The Choir has two divisions – the Juniors in grades 1-4 and the Seniors in grades 4-7 – and rehearses once a week for an hour (Thursdays 3:45 – 4:45) September through May at Mimico Baptist Church. We offer a simple snack (included in choir fees) each week before rehearsal begins.
In 2015 the Choir was honoured to received our first grant from the Ontario Arts Council, and won a 2015 Gem of the Lakeshore Award for “Best Culture and Recreation” in Etobicoke-Lakeshore.
The Choir is committed to community-building, giving children of all backgrounds and income levels access to high quality, affordable choral education and a sense of teamwork through rehearsals and performances together.

We Need Your Support
The Mimico Children’s Choir operated for 7 years on an almost entirely volunteer basis, with qualified music professionals giving freely of their time and talents. Unfortunately this was not sustainable in the long-term.
In order to retain professional staff (1-2 accompanists, 2 conductors and an administrator) while keeping our fees within the means of our mixed-income community, the Choir raises funds through fundraising activities, donations, corporate sponsorships and government grants.
Many of Mimico’s youth would not have access to this kind of music education without the Mimico Children’s Choir. We are committed to continuing to offer bursaries and sibling discounts for those in need, to ensure that our Choir is open for all community children who love to sing and want to participate.
Please consider how you or your business can help the Mimico Children’s Choir survive and thrive in the short term, and for years to come. If you know of granting programs or possible sponsors, or you can donate your time to help us apply for funding, please get in touch. firstname.lastname@example.org
